Description
Very large and exceedingly rare English Renaissance Revival fireplace mantel, circa 1860s. Made of hand carved walnut featuring a gothic cathedral design. The fireplace portion is set between ornate Corinthian columns with carved capitals and a concave contoured back flanked by floral medallions. The mantel showcases a paneled back ascending to a roofed top between fleur de lis steeples. The back is centered by a carved crest with monogram amongst interlaced flowers within gothic pitched arcade panels. Flanking this area is an open plinth with gothic windows on three sides. A perfect area for display of sculptures. Continuing downward the mantel has a shelf with carved arcade and columns between 5 ring medallions and fleur de lis embellishments. Upper moldings feature a low relief scrolling foliate design. From top to bottom the piece is ordained by world class craftsmanship and meticulous detail. A breathtaking fireplace that will become the center of attention in any space.
