Description
Impressive antique red lacquer Qing Dynasty cabinet. A rectangular form made from elm with mortise and tenon construction and lower serpentine carved apron. Features two dovetailed drawers over lower cabinet with shelf. Each cabinet drawer and door is trimmed in a blue surround. The drawers feature a beautiful hand painted floral motif that nicely compliments the lower greek key design and figural motif along the cabinet doors. The scene features four children dressed in robes facing inwards offering up pomegrantes. The pomegranate is considered a symbol of fertility and therefore it is often represented with children. Buddha is also often depicted holding a pomegranate, a peach and a citron, the three fruits suggesting abundance of sons, years and happiness, respectively.
