Description

Two monumental antique bronze Champleve enameled Cloisonne urn lamps featuring a floral motif with elephant shaped handles along the mouth. Made of very bronze featuring Champleve enamel, a technique whereby depressions that are incised, carved or die struck on the surface are filled with opaque enamel and then fired until the enamel is fused with the bronze. The word champlevé is a compound French word (champ + levé) meaning “field raised” or more precisely, raised field.
