Description
Antique 1861 British Legal Manuscript Indenture Vellum Document. This museum-worthy, large-format historical document from 1861 is a handwritten English legal indenture meticulously drafted on a heavy sheet of genuine animal vellum (parchment). The manuscript contains highly detailed, decorative Gothic script headings ("This Indenture", "And this Indenture further witnesseth") and red-lined margins. The contract details an estate or trust settlement related to a last will and testament, explicitly identifying historical parties including John Patch, Alexander Grant Hildyard (of Market Deeping), and John Harding Robinson (of the Parish of Saint Pancras). The text details prominent contemporary economic entities, including financial holdings tied to the East India Company, the Southwark and Vauxhall Water Company, and the Saint Katherine’s Dock Stock. The lower margin retains three pristine, original red wax seals mounted on green fabric ribbons, cleanly flanked by the matching ink signatures of the signatories. The left margin features a striking blue "Fifteen Shillings" revenue stamp accompanied by a sharp, inked London date stamp reading "23-7-61" (July 23, 1861) alongside an embossed royal crown paper seal. Presented in a custom metal frame with a full glass backing that beautifully displays the reverse side’s original folded panels, witness statements, and schedules, the document is in exceptional antique condition with crisp ink and only light, expected vellum waving from age.
