Description
This antique Chinese altar table—crafted from solid elm wood (yumu)—showcases the rustic, minimalist beauty characteristic of traditional provincial furniture design. The rectangular tabletop is constructed with thick planks set within a classic mitered frame, highlighted by prominent, visible mortise-and-tenon joinery patches that speak to its age and authentic handmade construction. Below the top, the wide front apron features a practical configuration with two central cabinet doors fitted with flush wooden pivot hinges, flanked on either side by recessed decorative panels. The table's structural profile is defined by distinctive, open-work scrolled or cloud-shaped spandrels linking the deep apron to the straight, square legs. Exhibiting a beautifully weathered, time-matured dark honey-brown patina complete with historical surface scuffs, paint remnants, and natural wood splitting, this versatile console serves as an exceptional statement piece for a hallway or living room.
