Description
This spectacular antique High Victorian Aesthetic Era washstand or commode cabinet, dating to the circa 1880s, is a stunning example of late 19th-century American craftsmanship featuring luxurious walnut burl detailing. The piece is crowned by a monumental, architectural upper mirror structure heavily influenced by the Eastlake movement. The top structure features an ornate carved crown crest over incised geometric patterns, stylized floral blocks, and fluted side supports flanking a large rectangular bevel-edged mirror.
The base is fitted with a beautiful, original variegated red/ purpleish-brown marble top complete with an integrated matching marble backsplash and contoured side splash guards. Below the stone, the highly functional cabinet configuration consists of a single wide top drawer positioned over a lower tier split into two side-by-side drawers on the left and a single recessed-panel cupboard door on the right.
Every single drawer face and the central door panel are highlighted by rich, book-matched walnut burl veneers displaying an exceptionally swirling grain pattern. The cabinet is accented by central brass keyholes and adorned with original, heavy ornate brass drop-bail handles mounted on highly decorative Aesthetic Period stamped backplates. Raised on a clean plinth base with molded corner trim, this grand washstand serves as an incredible accent piece for a bathroom, entryway, or historic interior.
