Antique, mid-1800s daguerreotype case, made of leather or gutta-percha, designed to hold an early photograph. The case features an ornate, embossed harp design on the cover. Daguerreotypes were the first commercially practical photographic process, popular from 1839 into the early 1860s. The cases were designed to protect the delicate image, which was made on a silver-coated copper plate.
