Description
Late 19th Century American Victorian Chest of drawers. Features four Knapp jointed drawers with brass drawer pulls and carved escutcheon plates. Dresser stiles are grooved matching the drawer fronts. The dresser is on casters for ease of movement.
The Knapp joint was developed during the late Victorian Era in post Civil War United States. Patented by Charles Knapp of Waterloo, WI in 1867, the Knapp Joint was a huge breakthrough for the furniture industry; machines called routers made circular cuts in wood far quicker than by hand. The Knapp Joint is particularly unique to furniture as it was only used from 1870 until 1900. It is also referred to as the Pin and Cove Drawer.
