Description

Charming Late 18th Century French Neoclassical Directoire Chair. Made from cherry with a contoured back over a tole peinte or lacca contrafatta panels showcasing an old landscape / temple cityscape scene. Lacca Contrafatta was a popular form of decoration that sprang up in Venice c.1750. It used prints, cut and pasted on to armoires, cabinets and chests, then painted, gilded and finished with clear varnish. The chair has a rush seat and squared legs connected by stretchers.

Condition

Good Condition with finish wear to the artwork along the back. General age related wear as well as some finish wear to the top of the back from tape.
