Each leg is connected by a central stretcher with beautifully turned trophy shaped finial. Marked along the base with brass tag, #2744.

Johnson Furniture was founded in 1908 by three brothers (Carl, Hjalmar, and Axel) who emigrated from Sweden in 1887. Specializing in period revivals from the styles of Sheraton, Hepplewhite, Empire, Colonial and other European designs. Carl had received a medal for his cabinetmaking skills from the King of Sweden before moving stateside. He worked closely with their in house designer Tom Handley to create these beautiful masterpieces. Tom's designs featured intricate marquetry and elaborate carvings, like the one offered above. He became an officer of the company in 1922, holding this position until his death in 1926. At this point their label changed to Johnson Handley Johnson paying homage to him. The company remained in business until 1983.
