Description

Antique World War I Prussian / German trench art matchbox holder, crafted from the Imperial Army brass belt buckle, featuring a medallion with rope twist edges and a crown at the center, ringed with the words Gott Mit Uns and olive branches.

Gott mit uns ('God with us') is a phrase commonly used in heraldry in Prussia (from 1701) and later by the German military during the periods spanning the German Empire (1871–1918), Nazi Germany (1933–1945), and the early years of West Germany (1949–1962). It was also commonly used by Sweden in most of its wars and especially as a battle cry during the Thirty Years' War.
