Description
Set of six 1930's white porcelain saucers by Kobenhavns Porcellains Maleri (KPM). Each saucer features a differnt hand painted floer at the center and matching gilt rims. Signed R.J. 1931.
"The Copenhagen Porcellain Decorating Workshop (Kjøbenhavns Porcellains Maleri - often abbreviated KPM) was a Danish porcelain painting company founded in 1883. In 1924 it was acquired by the Aarhaus wholesaler company Holst & Knudsen. Since 1904, Holst & Knudsen had supplied the country's hardware stores with glass and porcelain from some of the large factories in Central Europe, but gradually the company imported the porcelain goods undecorated and had them painted in Denmark, including at KPM. The Great Depression made difficult importing cheap German porcelain. That's why Holst & Knudsen established in 1936 own porcelain factory Porcelænsfabriken Danmark. During first years of production, the factory was using the Kjøbenhavns Porcellains Maleri (KPM) mark. It continued production till 1969. In 2012, the Danish Porcelain Manufactory – Lyngby Porcelæn was reopened by Christian Elving who in 2011 acquired from owner's family all rights and drawings."
