Description

Antique mid 19th century English walnut burl wood vanity box, originally owned by Charles B. Hornby, employee of Spencer & Craig Printing Works of Cincinnati, OH. Engraved plaque on top reads “From His Brother Edward.” The interior feathers a leather framed mirror and folds open to reveal a variety of compartments, plus eight glass and repousse silver topped containers for toiletries. On the left hand side is a small button, which when pressed opens a small drawer that emerges from the bottom right side of the box. This velvet lined drawer has spaces for storing a variety of personal care tools, only three of which are extant: a small corkscrew and button hook (which match and appear original to the box) and a bodkin or awl which is of a slightly different length and material.

Condition

Good Antique Condition - Some cracks in veneer, especially around base; couple of chips around lower drawer; bottom felt peeling off; gentle wear to interior; some tarnish but no noticeable chips or cracks in bottles; only three vanity tools in drawer.
