Description
Israeli WWI era Pressed Flowers of the Holy Land souvenir book. Made of Olive wood featuring various flowers from Zion.
During the First World War it was common for Australian diggers serving overseas to purchase and send home souvenirs featuring flowers including embroidered postcards, handkerchiefs, cushion covers and similar items. During the Victorian period, flowers had particular meanings. This souvenir book, called 'Flowers of the Holy Land Jerusalem', comprises pressed flowers said to have been collected from places of pilgrimage in Jerusalem including Mount Zion. The flowers are mounted in a special book with covers made from olive wood. At the end of the 1800s this was a popular material from which to create souvenirs for tourists visiting the Holy Land.
