Antique 1930’s Dapper Dan/Dummy Dan/Charlie McCarthy style ventriloquist dummy doll, likely by the Ralph A. Freundlich Company, with pull-string articulated mouth, composition head and arms, cloth body, and original hounds-tooth suit and flat cap.

“ Ralph A. Freundlich first worked for the Jeanette Doll Company from 1923 to1929, he also formed the Silver Doll & Toy Manufacturing Company in 1923 until 1924 which made Mama dolls.

Ralph A. Freundlich, Inc. operated out of New York City from 1929 until 1934, then moved to Clinton, Massachusetts and are best known for their composition novelty dolls.

It appears all of Freundlich's dolls are unmarked so they can be a challenge to identify. Freundlich operations ceased in 1945 when they filed for bankruptcy.” “Charlie McCarthy is Edgar Bergen's famed ventriloquist dummy partner. Charlie was part of Bergen's act as early as high school, and by 1930, was attired in his famous top hat, tuxedo, and monocle. The character was so well-known that his popularity exceeded that of his partner, Bergen.”
