"Oil on Canvas, Unframed. Jacques Flechemuller moved to Paris, with his family, early in life. It was here he first became aware of art through the monthly calendars that were given out by the local post office. Everyone had calendars with images of kittens, puppies and happy family settings hanging in their kitchen. He looked forward to each new month and its accompanying image with blissful anticipation. This was the foundation for his awareness in the power of art to elicit pure joy. When it was made evident to him that these images, in fact, were not art, he was devastated. Humor came to be a very important factor in his work.
While he studied drawing in Paris as a young teen, Flechemuller never considered making a living as an artist. To support his love of painting he worked multiple odd jobs including a stint as a magician in a small circus, a gagman in a contemporary dance company, and as a chef on a barge/restaurant in Paris. He is now a full time artist and shows his work internationally. Flechemuller currently lives and works both in Brooklyn New York, NY and in Ardeche, France.
