This piece is attributed to Jean Burkhalter (1895-1982) - Jean Burkhalter was a French designer, architect and painter.

He was born on October 10th, 1895 in Auxerre, France. His studies started at the school of decorative art, Ecole des Arts Decoratifs, in Paris, followed by the school of industrial art Ecole d'Art Industriel in Grenoble.

He belonged to the so-called musicalist movement, which promoted the osmosis between painting and music, translating musical emotions into the painting. He is also renowned for his paintings of landscapes, inspired by the Burgundy region and his native city Auxerre.

He has been also a designer of interiors, furniture, carpets, textiles, silver jewels and ceramics.

He was the son-in-law and partner of the renowned sculptor Martel, with whom he shared an art studio in Paris Montparnasse.
