Description

1944 Alnor Velometer - Type 3002 (Boyle System) Serial 6194. Produced by Illinois Testing Laboratories, Inc of Chicago, USA. 3392. Includes three attachments, two rubber tubes, and black leatherette case.

"A velometer measures air speed in a given area. This example is a Type 3002, Boyle form, made by the Alnor Instrument Co. John A. Obermaier (1890-1958) established Illinois Testing Laboratories in Chicago in 1920. That firm was offering Boyle velometers by 1935, explaining that they could be used to measure the velocity of air in heating and ventilating work. Alnor Instrument and Pyrometer Co., a division this firm, was going by 1946; the name represented Obermaier’s two sons, Alfred and Norman. That firm, later known as The Alnor Instrument Co., boasted “Precision Instruments for Every Industry.” It announced plans to move to Niles, Ill., in 1964; and it was sold to Swedish investors in 1978."
