Description
Vintage 20th Century Lithograph of 1849 N. Currier "Stocks Up" & "Stocks Down" Lithograph Prints. This exceptional piece of Wall Street history features a rare, satiric dual-print presentation published by the legendary Nathaniel Currier (prior to partnering as Currier & Ives). Originally entered according to Act of Congress in 1849, this matched set humorously captures the emotional volatility of the stock market. The top print, "Stocks Up," depicts a smug, plump investor holding a tape of high gains, while the lower print, "Stocks Down," humorously illustrates a frantic, disheveled broker tearing his hair out over a falling market report titled "The Art of Making a Fortune in 2 Hours." Both lithographs display publication lines, including "Lith. & Pub. By N. Currier" and the historic address "152 Nassau St. Cor. of Spruce N.Y." The prints are beautifully preserved under glass in a custom double-window mat layout, housed in a traditional wood-grain frame with a dark beaded interior track.
