Description

Up for your consideration is a magnificent, authentic vintage Herend Hungary fine porcelain figurine titled "The Bird Seller" (Model Number 15791 / 2). Standing proudly on a circular white base embellished with heavy, scalloped gold-gilt scrollwork, this dynamically modeled piece showcases a rustic eighteenth-century gentleman holding a delicate white songbird near his chest. Beside him sits a beautifully rendered tree stump adorned with autumnal leaves and a meticulously detailed, slatted wooden birdcage. The figurine boasts vibrant, rich colors, featuring the gentleman in a yellow boater hat with a blue band, a rich magenta cravat, a tan vest over a white shirt with vivid blue cuffs, a brown apron, and striking green-and-yellow vertically striped breeches.

The underside of the base is fully documented with highly desirable collector provenance, featuring the standard blue underglaze Herend shield crest with crossed paint brushes, alongside an incised model number 15791, an incised size code 2, and a raised "HEREND" block-letter factory stamp. Most notably, this premium example bears the rare, handwritten blue script signature of Wéninger Lászlóné (Mrs. László Wéninger), one of Herend’s most celebrated and recognizable 20th-century master painters. This exceptional artisan signature significantly elevates the rarity and investment value of the piece.
