Description
This antique W.H. Grindley flow blue ironstone pitcher features the intricate, geometric "Syrian" pattern, dating precisely to the late Victorian era of 1897. Manufactured in Staffordshire, England, the water pitcher exhibits an elegant, highly sculpted form with a wide flaring spout, a deeply scalloped rim, and a beautifully scrolled acanthus leaf handle. Its white ceramic exterior is decorated with a repeating transferware motif of stylized, kaleidoscopic medallions and delicate floral starbursts, executed in a deep cobalt blue ink that intentionally bleeds into the glaze to create a classic "flow blue" effect. The underside is fully marked with W.H. Grindley's signature globe-and-crown trade mark, the British design registration number RD NO 305250, and an additional stamp noting "PATENTED SEP. 21ST 1897 U.S.A." which indicates it was produced for immediate import to the late 19th-century American luxury market.
