20th Century "The Ascension of Christ" Baroque Oil Painting After Rembrandt 30"

Description

20th Century oil-on-canvas religious painting depicts The Ascension of Christ, an expressive work executed in a style reminiscent of Rembrandt's famous 1636 masterwork. The composition features a glowing figure of Jesus Christ in radiant white robes ascending into a brilliant, golden heavenly light with his arms outstretched. He stands atop a small cloud supported by a cluster of winged cherubs, while additional angelic figures emerge from the soft clouds framing the upper left and right. Below on the dark, earthy ground, a gathered group of apostles and disciples watch the event in awe, their expressions filled with reverence as they look upward with clasped and raised hands next to a shadowed tree on the left. The painting is housed in a substantial, heavily ornamented gilded frame featuring deeply molded scrolling foliage, acanthus leaves, and stylized floral corner patterns. The reverse side reveals a contemporary wooden stretcher frame with a clean canvas backing secured by metal retainer clips within a wide outer wooden frame liner.
