Description

A beautiful Late Victorian Eastlake Dresser and Mirror, circa 1880. The case is made from walnut with three lower drawers featuring burled front molding, brass hardware and Charles Knapp Joinery. The mirror portion showcases beautiful Eastlake carved molding, an adjustable mirror flanked by corbel shelves and glove boxes set around a marble insert at the bases.

The Knapp joint was developed during the late Victorian Era in post Civil War United States. Patented by Charles Knapp of Waterloo, WI in 1867, the Knapp Joint was a huge breakthrough for the furniture industry; machines called routers made circular cuts in wood far quicker than by hand. The Knapp Joint is particularly unique to furniture as it was only used from 1870 until 1900. It is also referred to as the Pin and Cove Drawer.
