"The Sun Manufacturing Company was incorporated in Greenfield, Ohio, in 1891, founded by E. L. McClain. In March 1903, the company reorganized and began the process to move to Columbus, due to its benefits in manufacturing and shipping. It hired Thomas A. Morton as its secretary and treasurer at that time; he became business manager in 1905. Additions to the building were constructed in 1909 and 1912. These three-story structures complemented the original building. In 1913, areas throughout Ohio were damaged with significant flooding, in what became known as the Great Flood of 1913. About 250 people, including workers and flood refugees, became trapped in the factory during the flood after Franklinton's levee first failed, prompting a rescue effort. In 1927, the Columbus Show Case Co. purchased the factory, stock, and interests of the Sun Manufacturing Co.; the McKinley Avenue Building would be Plant No. 2 for the Columbus Show Case Co. In 1931, the facility was leased to A. J. Lehmer, Inc., manufacturers of plank and design floors.[9] The factory building was purchased by the Schiff Shoe Co. in 1936. The facility held several manufacturers over its history, including the Yale Distribution & Storage Co, that was formed in December 1975. Today it is in use by GC Pallet & Storage, Inc."
