Description

Circa mid 20th century US Navy issue X-band pulse magnetron mounted on its magnet. 9600 / D-168226 / 5300 / US Anchor. Similar in appearance to Western Electric model 725A.

"Was used by: Radar. Filament: Vf 6.3 Volts / If 1 Ampere / Half indirect. Description: Fixed frequency, 9375MHz, magnetron capable of delivering 60KW pulse. Flanged waveguide parallel to the cathode axis. One of the first X-band magnetron produced in large quantities since WWII. 725A was developed by Bell Telephone and WE, scaling down the S-band design and increasing the cavity number to 12, to operate with relatively small permanent magnets. Production started in the late 1942. 89,480 units of this magnetron were supplied to British Empire under the Lend-Lease law. Widely used in several aircraft radar equipment, such as AN/APS-3, AN/APS-4 and AN/APS-15. Several manufacturers, including Amperex, Mullard, Northern Electric, Philips, Raytheon, Toshiba, Valvo and Western Electric." (Source: Radio Museum)
