Description

Vintage 20th century landscape oil painting on linen after "Homewards" by John Sanderson-Wells, depicting a pair of figures in English riding habits, riding their horses down an autumn road. Scalloped and foliate gold frame.

"John Sanderson-Wells was a British painter best known for his naturalistic depictions of equestrian scenes, portraits, and 18th-century genre scenes. Born in 1872 in London, United Kingdom, he went on to study at the Slade School of Art in London and later at the Académie Julian in Paris. From 1895 onward Sanderson-Wells exhibited at both the Royal Academy in London and was elected to the Royal Institute in 1903. Much of his work was commissioned by the gentry and so remains in private collections, but can also be found in Banbury Town Hall and the Whitaker Rossendale Museum and Art Gallery in the United Kingdom. The artist died on March 10, 1955 in London, United Kingdom." (Source: Artnet)
