Century Furniture English Chippendale style sleigh bed, circa last quarter 20th century. Made from mahogany with carved and paneled head and foot boards. The posts feature a lovely scrolled acanthus motif over reeded baluster design leading to beeded ball and claw feet. The headboard is topped by an exquisite scrolled and mirroed acanthus carved design. Side rails and lower front apron are accented by Egg and Dart molding. The origins of decorative egg-and-dart mouldings date back to ancient Greek and Roman architecture. Profiles and rules of proportion served to support or separate surfaces, while implying a structural logic. Truly a remarkable furnishing that will demand attention in any space.
