Description

A beautiful American Victorian era dresser, circa 1880s. Made from walnut with three dovetailed drawers, stepped stiles and a marble top. The drawers are dovetailed via the Knapp Joint. Features ornate metal bale pulls featuring apposing lions and ornate floral details

The Knapp joint was developed during the late Victoria Era in post Civil War United States. Patented by Charles Knapp of Waterloo, WI in 1867, the Knapp Joint was a huge breakthrough for the furniture industry; machines called routers made circular cuts in wood far quicker than by hand. The Knapp Joint is particularly unique to furniture as it was only used from 1870 until 1900. It is also referred to as the Pin and Cove Drawer.

Condition

Good Antique Condition; Age and use related wear. Some drip marks / staining to the upper rail and top drawer front. Circular marking and distressing to marble top.
