Antique 19th Century Henry II Renaissance Revival Mahogany & Leather Side Chair

Description

A charasmatic 19th Century Henry II side or desk chair, circa 1870s. Drawing inspiration from Spanish and Renaissance Revival. Made from mahogany with an aged brown leather having gold tooling. Features baluster turned finials between acanthus carved stiles. The leather cushion is spring loaded and has ornate metal medallions. The chair is supported by turned and fluted legs connected by an ""H"" stretcher over bun feet.

Furniture in the Henry II style displays the values and aesthetics of the Renaissance, which means rebirth. This rebirth of classical arts and philosophies of ancient Rome and Greece arose in Italy in the 15th century and spread across Europe, influencing architecture and the decorative arts.

Good Antique Condition; springs pronounced, Natural distressing. Weathering and cracking to leather from age.
