Description

Antique sterling silver souvenir spoon manufactured by N.F. (Niagara Falls) Silver Company. Design patented December 3, 1901 to commemorate the assassination of President William McKinley on September 14th of that year. McKinley’s portrait sits in the bowl of the spoon framed in the words “It Is God’s Way – His Will Be Done” and a laurel wreath, above 1901 and an American eagle. The top of the spoon shows the two other predidents assassinated before McKinley, Abraham Lincoln (1865) and James A. Garfield (1881), separated by a Union shield of stars and stripes. A plaque design on the handle titles the spoon “Our Martyred Presidents.” Reverse of the handle sports the makers mark and a floral flatware pattern.
