Owen Hacker, b. June 14, 1917, Dayton, Ohio. Son of Owen E.Hacker, artist/designer of metal labels and nameplates (ala Four Roses liquor bottle labels, other famous brands of cologne, furniture, etc)

Studied at The Dayton Art Institute, 1929-35. Graduated from Ohio University 1939 BA, cum laude. Art Director/Chief Photographer, Dayton Daily News, 1945-57.

Began teaching in '65, and conducts watercolor workshops in portraiture, landscape and general design.

Elected to signature membership in The American Watercolor Society in 1980 and served on its Board of Directors, 1995-97. Co-founder of The Ohio Watercolor Society, and its President in 1989-91.

Hacker works mainly in transparent watercolor, has a broad knowledge of many media. He has judged many regional and national art shows, including the Space Coast International show in Florida, 1978. He has had 28 one- artist shows throughout the U.S.

His work is in the permanent collections of The Charles and Emma Frye Museum in Seattle, the Zanesville Art Museum, and the White House Historical Association. In 2001 his painting was selected for the April page of the White House Calendar.
