Description
Vintage 1998 bronze sculpture by Darlis Lamb, titled “French Lesson 4 – Cinq Poires, Five Pears” featuring five pears on a strip of cloth, mounted on a black marble base, signed and numbered 3/20. BIO: Born in Nebraska in 1938, Lamb was educated at the University of Nebraska and Creighton University, Omaha. She worked as a painter and printmaker before embarking on sculpture in 1982. Her sculptures are represented in several prestigious public collections and gardens. Among her numerous memberships are the North American Sculpture Society, Catharine Lorillard Wolfe Art Club and National Sculpture Society. Includes copy of Certificate of Authenticity.
The addition of her still life bronzes began in 1997, winning two Gold Medals and a Bronze Medal for this series, along with many other awards, both regionally and nationally. Her oeuvre of works over the years has successfully included figures, nature subjects, zen landscapes and her most prevalent current works entitled “French Lessons”. As a painter prior to being a sculptor, sculpting still life subjects in bronze was a natural transition for the artist.
She has three permanent bronzes in Benson Park Sculpture Garden in Loveland, Colorado – The Old Greek, The Old Greek’s Wife and The View, a bas relief. She was the third woman to have a permanent bronze added to the Park and the first woman to complete 25 consecutive years of participation in their Annual Sculpture in the Park. Other commissions have included works for the Colorado Springs Osteopathic Foundation, the Space Foundation and the Colorado American Lung Association. She has taught several workshops in figurative terra cotta sculpture, and is included in galleries across the country. Her publication listings include Who’s Who in American Art, Who’s Who in the West and Who’s Who of American Women, among others.
Recent feature articles in major publications include Denver Woman magazine in June/July, 2010 – “Darlis Lamb-Images in Bronze” and the U.K.’s Belen Echandia web site profiling Lifestyles, “Inspirational Women – Moments with Darlis Lamb”. She was included in Southwest Art magazine’s July, 2010 issue with a Profile in the Sculpture section. Darlis is included in Southwest Art’s new hardcover book, Sculpture of the Rockies, with a full page profile and photograph of “Madame Rose”. Her most recent publications include a Profile in Southwest Art magazine’s Sculpture Edition in July, 2013 and inclusion in author Stan Shur’s book Successful Women Speak Out ~ A Collection of Personal Experience and Wisdom from Successful American Women.
