Description
Vintage 1960s mid century glass ware set produced by Hazel Atlas, decorated with a ""Wedgwood"" inspired blue and white Hellenic grape pattern.
Some History: At one point in Atlas's long history it was one of the largest glassmaking manufacturers in the world. It had its humble beginnings in making opal glass fittings for mason in 1901, in 1934 it made its first glass dinnerware line, in 1936 it made its first semi-opaque white glass dinnerware, and continued making glassware through the years of the Great Depression called 'depression glass', and after WWII it rolled out its line of fused and fired-on patterns and designs especially on cocktail shakers, whiskey tubs, high ball tumblers, and they even filled patterned jelly jars with jelly that you could purchase at your local grocery store that could be used as drinking glasses after the jelly was gone.
The white grape clusters, vines, leaves, tendrils, and the boarder pattern just below the rim on top and just above the base on the bottom fused and fired-on the front and sides of each piece of this magnificent barware set are on what is nicknamed a 'Wedgewood blue' background color giving each piece of this set the look of a piece of 'Wedgewood' pottery. However, there is no direct relationship between Hazel Atlas and Wedgewood pottery and the pattern on this barware set is completely coincidental. The ice bucket and the whisky tubs all have .925 sterling silver rims on them.
