Description

Boat model depicting Chinese Junk ship. A junk is a type of Chinese sailing ship, shaped similar to a pirate or galleon ship. They were developed during the Song dynasty based on Austronesian ship designs, examples of which have been trading with the Eastern Han dynasty since the 2nd century AD. Wooden sailing ships, called junks, were used by merchants to carry goods along rivers and canals or by sea. They were also used by pirates, who stole from the merchant ships. Junks were the first ships to have rudders, which allowed them to be steered easily.
