Description

McMahan Furniture Co. Early American side table. Made of cherry featuring rectangular form with one dovetailed drawer and turned legs.

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. - Eugene McMahan & Son Furniture Co. was started by Eugene and his eight sons in the early 1940s. Prized Kentucky antiques were becoming scarce in the 1930s, creating a market for reproduction furniture made of native cherry and walnut. Campbellsville became the center of that industry. At one point, McMahan Furniture had 38 workers. There were six other furniture-makers in town, too, a couple of them from branches of the McMahan family. "Campbellsville cherry" became popular throughout the region. Now a days, there are only four full time employees at McMahans, but the quality and attention to detail still remailn.
